Horse Trailer Towing lessons
Here at Matt Price Driver Training, we offer horse trailer towing lessons for you to be able to tow and reverse your horse trailer confidently and safely.
Since 2021, everyone now had full entitlement to be able to tow trailers without the need for a separate test. The Government do however strongly recommend that anyone looking to tow, or has very little experience, should still get professional training.
This is where our courses come in.
Our course will give you invaluable experience, skills and knowledge before taking to the road with a trailer on the back for the first time. After all, you will be towing something precious to you.
The training
Carried out to the same high standards of the former B+E Trailer Test, the modules include: reversing, uncoupling & re-coupling, safe loading, on-road driving techniques, defensive driving, enhanced hazard awareness skills, roadworthiness and basic maintenance checks. Matt’s training ground is at Farnborough, close to the Surrey/Hampshire border where he has a large tarmac area – ideal for practising that reversing!
It is recommended that clients use their own vehicle where possible due to familiarisation, but for those who don’t have a suitable towing vehicle yet, you are more than welcome to use Matt’s car. Again, for those who do not have their own trailer yet, Matt can supply an Ifor Williams HB505 for the training.
The training sessions are based on a one-to-one basis, however, where required, the training courses can be tailored around pairs if there are two of you. This gives the advantage of learning from each other, especially useful for when both have little or no experience with trailers,
Matt is the ONLY qualified trainer in the area as approved by the Safe Towing Scheme and the DIA to give trailer towing tuition. He is also a DVSA Fleet Driver Trainer meaning he is also fully qualified by the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency to provide training to full licence holders – i.e. Yourself! Did you know anyone can offer training for towing even though they have no formal qualifications themselves? This, unfortunately, includes many other driving schools and so-called trainers from some of the well-known equine clubs! Yes really! No other trainer in the area is qualified to such a high standard and therefore able to give you the training you deserve!
Training sessions take roughly a morning to complete. Availability does change frequently and will be confirmed upon booking but allow two weeks as a rough guide, although Matt will try and accommodate sooner where needed.
